Supporters Club
In 1984 a group of Manchester United fans in Sligo got together and formed the Sligo Branch of Manchester United Supports Club, membership now stands at over 700 members.
In the early days, the Branch got an allocation of 20 – 30 tickets for 2 games during the season. Currently the Sligo Branch holds 10 season tickets for Old Trafford, and their membership of 850 members (2024-25 season) entitles the Branch to circa 30 extra tickets which they have the option to take up for each game.
The availability of tickets and increased transport options have allowed Branch Members to make some memorable trips to Manchester over the years to see United win Premier Titles and great European nights including Quarter and Semi Finals, and Champions League and Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup finals and Charity Shield games.
The Branch has a very enjoyable social scene with The Embassy Rooms in Sligo their meeting point, with fans watching televised games in the Embassy. A pre Christmas dinner is also held is the Embassy for members and partners.
The highlight over the years has got to be the visit of United stars who have attended the annual dinner dances. Famous names to grace the Yeats County included first team players Paul Parker, Nicky Butt, David May, Steve Bruce, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes former players Norman Whiteside, Paul McGrath, Steve McClaren while United Assistant Manager and Old Trafford legend Sir Alex Ferguson.
